I saw this post on reddit.
I can see why you’re so into robotics and AI. I can, I really can. As an IT professional myself, I use AI regularly. Not really into robotics, though. I mean, you’ve got reduced cost, reduced labor expenses, reduced accidents, just basically reduced costs across the board.
Somebody once said, “By 2030, you’ll own nothing and be happy.”
But, and I agree, it’s a little bit hyperbolic, that means that we’re gonna have UBI, or Universal Basic Income.
What this means is that we’re gonna start to see a unionization effort, spring up out of nowhere. And, I mean, nowhere. One day, you’ll be happy, playing along with all your neat little robots, and wondering how to build the next model of your AI. And the next, you’re gonna see a huge, and I mean huge, unionizing effort, amongst Americans.
It won’t even compare with the largest unionizing effort. It should dwarf that by a factor of 10? 20, I’m guessing?
And their demands will be simple… Give us jobs or increase our UBI. And this won’t be a measly few hundred dollars. We’re talking thousands of dollars for each and every employee that has been put on the bread line.
As it currently stands, I understand that companies get UBI. It’s what saved the banks, in 2008. It’s what saved several airlines from going out of business. It’s what saved each and every one of your asses. The American taxpayer.
So, I hope you’re ready, because you’re right. Change is coming. I just hope that you’re prepared for what comes next, after you get through playing with all your toys.
Because once you push people too far, their only option left to us is unionizing. If not for the sake of one particular job sector, then for the good of humanity.
