When I take a look at other countries, Canada, Germany, Japan even… And I take a look at their constitutions, they all have bookends on them.
Then when I take a look at our country, USA, it’s just a hodgepodge mess of white men, trying their best and putting together a 3/4 completed document.
Take the Freedom of Religion. Doesn’t this deserve to have a bookend on it?
Let’s quote the first Amendment :
Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances.
Don’t you think that there should be another Amendment, stating that “Congress shall make no law based upon religion.” A bookend, perhaps?
Hell, it would solidify the first Amendment.
“We don’t care what you believe, but don’t come here and try and justify yourself just because Allah, or Buddah, or God tells you that it’s so.”
This has been stress tested so fucking hard, as of late. We are on the verge of having another crusade into Greenland. We’ve already crusaded into Venezuela.
I mean, everybody that thinks that the founding fathers were geniuses, y’all are correct. But not as much of geniuses who wrote the 2nd and 3rd and subsequent drafts. Ya know, people who had generational knowledge? People who said, “Yah, but…” on the smaller things?
I mean, I am feeling more holy than any of these “Christian Nationalists”. And I’m an atheist. We are now living in a society whereby the people who don’t believe that god has any place in our common good, is now more holy than the people that do believe in god.
That’s how far down the rabbit hole some of these people have gone. There are people that will believe whatever crackpot theory about god is out there, all because it “sounds” true.
